First of all, can I just say how exciting this is? I pretty much epitomize the target group here, want something beyond autoX and PDX, but I don't have the time or money for a MMPRA , or other full-on race campaign. I have a pretty quick street car, and have been annoyed that there hasn't been anything "competetive" and exciting geared towards that amateur street car demographic. And, prizes! Awesome!
This seems to remove a lot of the barriers to entry for a lot of people, especially with the simplistic rules and classing. My only concern is the same as some as has been expressed by some others, that with such vague rules defining car eligibility, you will surely just get a few ringers in there winning every time that nobody will be able to compete with.
I like the idea of clearly defining what a "street car" is.
Hopefully this is going to be a place for driver's to stand out and win for their abilities, and not just sweep the thing because of a killer car.
As far as classing, perhaps leaning towards HP/weight ratios would be a little more fair than just drivetrain. Then you have a 240sx running with, say, an integra, instead of against some 500hp corvette.
Also, if you put a limit at 4.5L, you eliminate 80% of the American cars that are even remotely useful on a track, then you have just an import war, which would be lame for the rest of us.
What we can come up with to make it more fair and competetive. I'd hate to see it die out after a few events because everyone everyone gave up after realizing it was going to be owned by the same dink every time.
