Carbon sunroof, ugly, light weight(saved 12 pounds)... Needs a little work.

9/6/2010

Over 11 pounds out of the engine and off the front of the car. Not bad for crank and pulleys. Also, look at the size difference between pulleys, lots o' underdriven...

9/11/2010

That's the thing that sucks about a class based on power to weight, you have to dyno your car at the track and hope it isn't over the power you were targeting. Well, we did just that...67 whp too high on a 36mm restrictor. Here we come ST1!!!

So, got her out to MMP yesterday and ran a 1:44.7 on the west track.

Unfortunately, before any clean runs could be had, the turbo came loose from the exhaust manifold and was leaking badly. So, hopefully with a new T25 gasket and some tightened nuts, it'll actually have some POWA and get down to the 1:40s or lower! It still needs suspension tuning, it hasn't even been corner balanced yet. The engine is still stock, stock turbo and side mount intercooler. I'm just running a borrowed Mines ECU until the Motec gets installed, so I'm hoping for about 230 hp to the ground once the turbo is all bolted back together correctly.

With low/no boost, the lack of any usable power kept the speeds down. That made for some über-DEEP braking into turn one. The Stoptechs up front were amazing! I need to figure out a way to get a little more bias to the rear 300ZX brakes as they could do a bit more work. It's currently running street pads, but will have its race pans swapped in by Friday. That might give more rear bite.

It was kind of a quiet day at the track, but the car's currently unsophisticated exterior, and large race slicks did garner it a bit of attention.

It'll be racing the MPRA/STC this upcoming weekend, so everyone please pray to the Nissan Gods for a good showing against the EVOs.

Guiver was driving, on two year old Porsche Cup Take Offs... We should be able to knock a few seconds off that time once we are making over 100 hp, tune the suspension and put in the race brake pads.

Well, we took it out to MMP again last Sunday for the May 3rd Lap Battle event. It ended up being the third fastest production car on track that whole weekend, only losing to 2 Porsche 996 GT3 RSR clones. A 1:43.3 with no suspension setup, no engine tuning and on VERY old tires isn't too bad. I think we will still have 100-150 pounds of junk to remove, along with another 130 rwhp waiting for us to unleash on the dyno. A race alignment and corner balancing should also bring the times crashing down. I'm hoping to see 1:39s very soon.

Thanks to Big Tom, Matt G. and Chris N. for all their hard work!
